With a week to go until Paint The Town Red, we’ve added an exciting new component to the event — silent disco. Located inside our geodesic dome, the silent disco is an immersive way to listen to music broadcast by a DJ — over wireless headsets.

The silent disco is a continuation of live DJ performances at Paint The Town Red, located inside the dome 2nd Ave and 23rd Stree North. DJs will perform over speakers from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the silent disco starting at 10 p.m. Katie and John Gaiser return this year with projection art filling the dome space.

There’s no extra charge to Paint The Town Red attendees, but the 150 wireless headphones will be given on a first-come-first-served basis. Equipment is being provided by Silent Storm Sound System .

“I first encountered silent disco at Bonnaroo and was blown away,” says Scott Pierce, Paint The Town Red Chair. “It’s weirdly communal and pairs perfectly with the immersive nature of our artists’ work.”

A fundraiser for the Jefferson Shelby Chapter of the American Red Cross, Paint The Town Red, in its fourth year, is a celebration of digital art in downtown Birmingham. It features more than two dozen artists, 18 bands, four DJs, street entertainment, and food and art vendors. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 the day of the event.

To purchase tickets to Paint The Town Red, visit http://pttr2012.eventbrite.com. Follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/pttrbham.
