This year, we are accepting art in three categories:
Animation & Digitally Altered Experimental Film (moving images)
This category is for moving graphic art, animation and digitally modified experimental film. These submissions can be 3-5 minutes long. Longer works are accepted but should not exceed the length of 30 minutes. Please note that depending on projector location, accommodations for sound may or may not be available.
Digitally Rendered Images, Graphic Art and Digitally Manipulated Photography (still images)
Images submitted in this category can be in horizontal or vertical format. Selected images will be rear-projected in venue windows along 2nd Ave. N.
Proposals for Site Specific Installations
Proposals in this category are for Site and Event specific, large scale installations. Projects utilizing projection on non-traditional surfaces (sculpture, water, fabric, etc.) or installations that are interactive will be given special consideration.
Your Work Here
On April 14, 2012 the Birmingham-Jefferson Chapter of the American Red Cross will turn a section of Birmingham’s “Loft District” into an outdoor digital art show featuring digital artists from around the globe! Illuminated art will be projected on screens and buildings along 2nd Avenue North between 22nd and 24th Street. We will accept entries between February 1st and March 19, 2012.
We are looking for innovative and visually compelling examples of: digital graphic art, digital animations (3-5 minutes), digital photography, digitally altered photography, and interactive concepts. Digital photographs of fine art will not be accepted. Artwork can be vertical or horizontal format. Each artist may submit 2 pieces of film/animation or 5 still images art for free. Additional work can be submitted with a $25 entry fee.
Artists will be notified of their selection via email by Saturday, March 24th. Final (high resolution) artwork must be received (via ftp upload, file transfer or DVD) by Friday, April 6th.
ARTISTS RETAIN 100% OWNERSHIP OF THEIR WORK
Please note that by submitting an entry you agree to allow the American Red Cross the right to use photographic reproductions of your artwork for promotional purposes, both in print and online.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Submissions should be in one of the following formats: JPEG, MPEG, WMV, or AVI. Multiple pieces of artwork may be submitted; each artwork requires its own entry form. Complete the form below IN FULL submit with your piece. Please include an artists bio, CV, description of the work and link to any on line portfolios if possible.
Artists are not required but encouraged to attend the show. You can also download a PDF of the form and email submission information to paintthetownredbirmingham@gmail.com or mail on disk to the following address:
